Just call me Mia Thermopolis

My cousin's wedding reception was last night (Saturday), and for the entire week my family has been talking about how I need to go on a date with the bride's brother and her cousin (the groom is MY cousin, just to clarify). Her cousin happens to play basketball at BYU and is mighty fine on the eyes. Anyway, I got to the reception, and it was gorgeous. A beautiful backyard and lovely ambiance. I hugged the relatives that I haven't seen in forever, etc. They had the Fiore Pizza truck catering their wedding and a dessert bar complete with donuts and scotcheroos. Aka HEAVEN. Anyway, The first thing my grandma does after a nice long hug is lace her hand in mine and say, "welp. Might as well get this over with now." I was excited until I saw we were walking toward a circle of tall, attractive males surrounded by petite, seemingly perfect females. I leaned over to Grandma and said, "Grandma, I think he has a girlfriend," to which she replied, "I don't care!" and kept charging forward. Grandma butts right into the conversation and says, "Hello again. I just thought I should introduce all of you good looking fellas to my granddaughter, Eliza Summerhays." and then she turned and WALKED AWAY!!!!! Left me for the sharks. I said hi, and they introduced themselves, and Eric (the bball player) shook my hand. All the girls in the circle stared disapprovingly at me, and this was the conversation I had with them. The girl standing closest to me named Suzie said, "You should go get in line for some pizza. It's SO good." They all agreed and then TURNED AWAY FROM ME AND CLOSED OFF THE CIRCLE.  I stood there for a second, not sure what had happened. They didn't even give me a second glance, so I chucked up a peace sign and walked away.

Seriously?! I thought human decency was a thing, but apparently not! I laughed for basically the rest of the reception because I kept getting pity looks from Eric. Story of my life. It was humiliating and I felt like I was actually in a movie because it was too good to be real. Good one, rich kids, good one.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a whole lot of nothing to get to. It is summer, afterall :)

xoxo,
Lize.
